The Dobbin Day Service is a very special church service, unique to the village of Wanborough, Wiltshire.  'Dobbin' is an old Wiltshire word for a small loaf of bread.

The church service celebrates the life of 18th Century local rich land owner, William Stanley.  He left £50 in his will, a huge sum when he died in 1745, requesting that this be used to distribute bread to the poor of the parish, at a service at Wanborough Church near to the date of his death in February each year.

Two classes from Wanborough Primary School join parishioners at this special church service, at which the generosity of William Stanley is remembered.  At the service, a special loaf of bread imprinted with the word 'Dobbin' is handed out to those attending.

This year, a quarter peal of Grandsire Triples will be attempted before the 1.30 pm service, starting at 12.15 pm.
